Chongming has formulated the Work Plan for Building Chongming World-Class Eco-Island into a Carbon Neutrality Demonstration Zone, which clarifies the demonstration scope and main objectives. Chongming will make every effort to build a carbon neutrality demonstration zone with global influence that puts ecology first and promotes green development.

The demonstration scope covers the entire Chongming. Greenhouse gas emissions of the whole region will be calculated and assessed in a uniform way, and the realization path and measures for the long-term vision of carbon neutrality will be put forward. The main goal of the carbon neutrality demonstration zone is to build Chongming Island into a carbon-neutral island, and fully promote the low-carbon development of energy, transportation and construction on the island. It aims to build Changxing Island into a low-carbon island that focuses on key industries such as marine equipment, and make active efforts to construct Changxing Carbon-neutral Industrial Park, while building Hengsha Island into a zero-carbon island that gradually replaces high-carbon and low-carbon energy with zero-carbon energy.

In order to achieve the goal of building a carbon neutrality demonstration zone, Chongming will continue to make efforts in six major areas, namely accelerating energy conservation and reduction of carbon emissions in key areas, promoting industrial transformation and upgrading, further optimizing the energy structure, enhancing ecological environment protection and construction of carbon sinks, and improving fund guarantee and technological research, and guiding people to live a green life and choose green commuting modes.
