As one of the largest natural museums in China for now, Shanghai Natural History Museum has an education exhibition service area of 32,000+ square meters, which exhibits 10,000+ models and specimens from all over the world all year round.
The museum breaks the “fences” and “enclosures” of exhibits and cultural relics, reduces obstructions such as barriers and glass, and tries its best to directly display the animal models and specimens for the audience, and enable them to have close exchanges and interactions with the nature at zero distance. Under the theme of “Nature·Human·Harmony”, it has three sections, namely “Movement of Evolution”, “Picture of Life” and “Epic of Civilization”, and 10 permanent exhibition areas. Various methods are used to comprehensively explain the interwoven and mutually reinforcing relationships in the nature.
Advanced multimedia technology is another highlight of the exhibitions. The museum has built immersive theaters such as “Mystery of Origins”, “Cambrian Explosion” and “Escape from the Cretaceous” with multimedia technology to show the history of evolution to the audience. The educational courses that are independently developed by the museum and based on children’s interests cover almost all science categories. The form of the activities and courses is not limited to traditional teaching, but combines interactive learning methods such as observation and record, hands-on experiment, keynote presentation, role-playing, discussion and dialogue to help children find the way of scientific inquiry, develop an independent learning attitude, and cultivate the exploring spirit of tracing origins.
